About the country
Uzbekistan lies at the heart of Central Asia, on the old Silk Road through Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. More than 37 million people live here, and in many families three generations still share one courtyard. Elders lead weddings and holidays, and their word carries weight in the mahalla, the neighbourhood community.
